Details

Rustin's Worktop Oil is a unique water-borne blend of natural plant oils and other special ingredients which nourishes and protects all types of timber. It is a quick-drying wooden work surface treatment, leaving a durable and water-resistant seal which is not vulnerable to scratching or chipping. Rustin’s Worktop Oil is solvent free and conforms to the UK Articles in Contact with Food Regulations and is suitable for the kitchen or in any other food-related environment. Plant oils used in its formulation originate from sustainable sources. One litre will cover around 13 square metres per coat depending on the absorbency of the wood. Sizes: 500ml and 1L

Intended Use

For all kind of interior hardwood and kitchen worktops.

Special Features

It is a penetrating oil drying to a hard durable and water resistant seal. It adds warmth and depth to all woods, including oak, beech, teak, mahogany and veneered surfaces. It does not leave a surface film to scratch or chip. Conforms to Plastic materials and Articles in contact with Food (England) Regulations 2008.

Preparation

The surface must be clean, smooth, dry and free from wax, dust and contaminants. Remove wax by scrubbing with White Spirit or Rustin’s Surface Cleaner and a scouring pad, then wipe away whilst still wet with clean rags. Existing oil should be removed with Rustin’s Strypit Paint and Varnish Stripper. Bare wood may be dyed before coating with Rustin’s Wood Dye.

Application

Apply liberally with a clean rag or brush and wipe off the surplus oil after a few minutes. The first coat should be applied liberally with a brush and allowed to dry without wiping. Nibs may be removed from the final coat by applying the oil with a scouring pad, rubbing in the direction of the grain, then wiping away the surplus with clean rags or paper kitchen towels. Some wood may need sanding between two coats.

Coats

Bare wood requires 3 coats.

Drying Time

2-3 hours depending on temperature and humidity.

Re-coating Time

Re-coat once the previous coat is dry.

Application Temp.

Ideally 15-25°C, do not apply below 10°C.

Coverage

Approx. 13sq.m per litre, 1 coat, depending on the absorbency of the wood.
